Samla Velázquez

Samla Velázquez

Board Member

Samla Velázquez began her journey in education as a bilingual elementary teacher in Austin, Texas, where she discovered the power of language and representation in the classroom. She later served as an ESL Specialist in Katy ISD, partnering with teachers and families to create meaningful learning experiences that honored students’ cultures and voices.

Today, Samla is part of a team that develops STEM curriculum at an edtech company in Houston, continuing her mission to make learning accessible, hands on, and empowering for all students, especially those who, like her, grew up navigating more than one world.

Being part of Community x Sanchez holds deep personal meaning for Samla. As the daughter of immigrants who came to this country in search of a better life, she understands the challenges of navigating systems that often feel overwhelming and out of reach. For her family, education was the key that unlocked the dreams her parents carried with them, and it remains the foundation of every opportunity she’s had.

Samla also recognizes that her journey has been shaped by the hands that lifted her, encouraged her, and reminded her that she belonged. Through Community x Sanchez, she hopes to be that hand for the next generation, helping young people rise higher, dream bigger, and see themselves as the powerful, capable leaders their families always believed they could be.
